The Challenge

INTEC faced the ongoing challenge of efficiently delivering specialized analysis of poles - including field inspections, modeling, and National Electrical Safety Code® (NESC®) compliance reviews - while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.

The Outcome

INTEC recently upgraded to IKE Office Pro to support complex modeling and analyses and maximize time savings in the field and back office.

300+ utility poles analyzed

by one project manager in a single day

Complex projects, rising demand for accuracy

Intec Services Inc. (INTEC) has been a trusted leader in utility field services since 1992. INTEC provides sophisticated maintenance, management, inspection, and advanced evaluation of poles for electric utility and telecommunication companies across the U.S. Their experts have more than 100 years of combined experience in line engineering, wood technology, new pole inspection, and in-service inspection.

INTEC’s services include the modeling and engineering analysis of poles—a process where data accuracy is critical. Incorrect data has serious implications for safety, regulatory compliance, and the efficient allocation of capital investments.

Saving time in the field and back office

INTEC began their journey with IKE in 2018, initially implementing IKE Office for their pole data management needs. Recognizing the potential for enhanced capabilities, the company recently upgraded to IKE Office Pro, seeking to further optimize their field-to-back-office workflows.

The launch of IKE Office Pro introduced a set of capabilities that have streamlined INTEC’s fielding and analysis processes. Photos collected in the field with the IKE Device offer precise location and orientation information, vital for measuring critical pole data such as attachment heights and span lengths. If a back-office analyst identifies the need for additional data, IKE Office Pro enables poles to be reassigned to a field technician.

IKE Office Pro also offers several time-saving features for engineering analysis. Complex tasks such as correcting pole location, adjusting span lengths, and checking NESC clearance requirements can be done in just a few clicks. According to Stephen Ruschetti of INTEC, “IKE Office Pro saves us considerable time on the engineering side.”

In one recent example, Stephen completed the analysis of 360 poles in a single day, focusing on clearances between power and communication lines using IKE Office Pro’s popular vertical separation tool. The intuitive red/green visual indicators enable quick and accurate measurement of the separation between attachments, which is ideal for supporting make-ready work. Stephen emphasized the tool’s importance: “This feature is extremely helpful in ensuring compliance with utility and NESC standards.”

Minimal training time, maximum efficiency

The upgrade from IKE Office to IKE Office Pro was remarkably smooth for INTEC’s team. Stephen described the transition as “seamless,” adding, “I demonstrated IKE Office Pro to the team just once, and from that they were able to catch on and start using it.”

This underscores one of IKE Office Pro’s most important values: offering a user-friendly interface that accelerates onboarding and adoption and maintains productivity, even in complex utility fielding and engineering environments.

INTEC demonstrates how a specialized utility services business can attain new levels of productivity by adopting technology that enhances rather than complicates existing workflows. IKE Office Pro’s data accuracy, sophisticated analysis capabilities, and ease of use help position INTEC to continue delivering exceptional service to clients while managing the growing complexity of modern utility infrastructure management. The platform enables their team to make informed decisions about pole management, ultimately protecting their clients’ substantial capital investments while supporting safety and compliance.
